50 Years of Excellence: The Evolution of Dyce Carriers and Our Fleet

Introduction

From a single Morris Minor van to a vast fleet of modern vehicles covering the UK and Europe, Dyce Carriers has a rich history spanning over five decades. As we celebrate 50 years of providing reliable haulage services, we reflect on our journey, the evolution of our fleet, and the values that continue to shape our business.

Humble Beginnings: 1973

Dyce Carriers began as a family-run business in 1973, founded by Dave and Jean Moir. What started as a single van operation, delivering goods around Aberdeen, quickly grew thanks to our dedication to customer service and reliability. Our early years were marked by hard work, family values, and a commitment to providing high-quality services.

Fleet Evolution: From a Single Van to a National Presence

Over the years, our fleet has grown dramatically. From that lone Morris Minor, we now operate a diverse range of vehicles, including tractor units, trailers, and specialised trucks with advanced capabilities. Today, our vehicles cover long-distance routes, making daily journeys across the UK and Europe. The expansion of our fleet has been crucial in meeting the growing needs of our clients, and it represents the heart of our business.

Our specialised vehicles include category 2 special types, capable of handling abnormal loads up to 80 tons. In addition, our self-loading hi-ab vehicles with cranes can lift up to 14 tons, offering a versatile solution for heavy lifting and transportation in one seamless service. This expansion has allowed us to move beyond local deliveries to international operations, servicing Ireland and continental Europe.

Commitment to Modernisation, Safety and Renewables

As we’ve grown, we’ve invested heavily in modernising our fleet. Today, our average vehicle age is under five years, ensuring that our trucks are efficient, environmentally friendly, and reliable. Our commitment to safety is embedded in everything we do—from regular vehicle maintenance to advanced driver training and compliance with ISO 9001 and ISO 14001 standards.

Our fleet includes a variety of manufacturers such as DAF, Mercedes, Volvo, Renault, and Scania. Each new addition to our fleet is chosen with careful consideration of its safety features, efficiency, and long-term value. This investment strategy ensures that we stay at the forefront of the haulage industry, providing our customers with the best possible service while minimising environmental impact.

As a business we continue to evolve in response to customer needs. Examples include LLS (Load, Lift, and Shift) and Devan services at most major UK ports, including London Gateway, Southampton, and Felixstowe (FXT).

In essence, we provide a one-stop shop for all your logistics needs, offering haulage, Devan, and LLS services at these key ports. Our team is here to assist, whether it’s a few pallets or large project cargo.

In recent years, we have played a significant role in the renewables sector, successfully delivering four major battery projects for key clients. Our Grangemouth facility is equipped with the expertise and experience required to handle various types of batteries arriving from containers and flat racks.

With the capacity to manage cargo ranging from 8 to 45 tonnes, we can handle your project cargo and offer secure storage at Grangemouth, London Gateway, Southampton, and FXT, ensuring onward delivery to any location across the UK.

Maintaining Strong Family Values

Despite our growth, we’ve remained true to our roots as a family business. At Dyce Carriers, every member of the team is considered part of the family, and we maintain a flat organisational structure where everyone’s contribution is valued. Our core values—hard work, kindness, and a dedication to service—continue to guide us, ensuring that we remain focused on providing exceptional service while fostering a positive working environment.

Our new garage facilities in Aberdeen reflect our commitment to maintaining a modern and well-serviced fleet. Combined with strategic partnerships with manufacturers and services like Michelin, we ensure that our vehicles are in top condition, ready to deliver reliable services day after day.

Conclusion

From our humble beginnings to becoming a national leader in the haulage industry, Dyce Carriers’ journey has been one of growth, innovation, and a steadfast commitment to service. As we celebrate our 50th anniversary, we look forward to continuing to serve our customers with the same dedication, reliability, and family values that have brought us this far. Here’s to the next 50 years on the road!
